Deerfield incorporated as a village in 1903. The village houses the corporate headquarters for Walgreen's and Baxter Healthcare as well as being the location for other major employers in Lake County.

Included are 20 park sites that total 331 acres, a community center, field house, two public swimming pools, and a bowling alley, 131 acre golf course, nature walk parks, baseball diamond, eight tennis courts, soccer fields, football fields and basketball courts.
Schools
Deerfield has an excellent school system consisting of Township High School District #113 (Deerfield High School) with total enrollment of 1,373. The majority of elementary students attend Deerfield District #109 with 2,505 students. District #109 Junior High School enrollment is 998.
